Fear & Grief: The Chicken & The Egg

The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing.
Marcus Aurelius

I had a client once ask me "If God loves me, why don't I have what I want?"  Because I understand that relationships are reflections of me, I found this very interesting because I had a father who showed his love by giving me money. Did I believe "love equals money or to have"? Or did I believe they were at odds; love or money?
After years of introspection I realized that I had many emotional tethers to money, love and family. What the experience taught me was that grief, sadness, feelings of inadequacy etc are really what's at the center of our sorrow. I first believed it was fear that drove our behaviors and created limitations in our lives but I now know its the grief. The fear of experiencing it, or in some cases even remembering, it, is what stands in our way.
Example: It's not failure that we fear. We fear feeling like a failure. We feel like a failure if we don't try but we won't try because the thought of failing is too much to bear. You see how we entrap ourselves? Silly humans!
